I Grew Up Dreaming Of Top Flight Football

I Grew Up Dreaming Of Top Flight Football

Jose Fonte has admitted he grew up dreaming of having the chance to play in the top flight of English football and now thanks to this season, he's finally going to get the chance.

Speaking to saintsfc after being selected for the Championship Team of the Week, the defender said he was delighted to get his chance at mixing it with the countries best.

'When I used to play in Portugal I dreamed of coming to England and playing the Premier League. It took me a while, it's been five years since I came here, but finally I've achieved it. I'll look forward to it, and I've never wanted to work so hard as I do now. I want to do well in the Premier League to prove I'm capable of doing it.'

Fonte added he's never questioned or regretted his decision to join Southampton as the plan of the club was made clear to him and it's something he wanted to be a part of.

'The Executive Chairman, Nicola Cortese, had a big part in my coming here. Seeing the things that this club could possibly achieve and the person behind it, there was no doubt in my mind that this was the club to be at and that I would be successful here.'
