Rickie Lambert has said he is delighted that we will be facing Man City on the opening day as it'll be a perfect introduction to the Premiership.
Speaking to saintsfc Lambert admitted that he had predicted we'd get Man City on the opening day, but he thought it would be at St Mary's and not away from home.
'It's brilliant. My cousin asked me who I thought we'd get and the only thing I got wrong is I thought it would be at our place, but either way I'm absolutely chuffed. There's all kinds of sayings like it's better to get them early and just after the Euros, and who knows what kind of mindframe they're going to be in, but all that matters is what kind of mindframe we're going to be in. I think if we're in the same mindframe as we were last season then they'll find it very hard to beat us, I'm sure about that.'
Well confidence clearly isn't an issue within the camp still, and nor should it be. It's going to be a difficult season but we have more than enough about us to make an impact in this division and cause a few surprises along the way. Whilst there won't be any easy games, the fact we face such tough opposition at the beginning and can only help us adjust quicker really.
And that's something Lambert clearly agrees with.
'It's a hard start but I'm made up. If I could have picked then I would have taken it because you're playing the best that the Premier League has got to offer straightaway so we'll soon get to grips with it.'
Our opening few games are also a good introduction to the occasion and the varying styles on show in the league, and it'll be interesting to see how Adkins changes the team to deal with more flairy sides compared to the more physical ones.
