Walcott To Return?

Rather a bizarre link today, it's being reported that we are lining up a 15m bid for Theo Walcott.

The Sunday Mirror of all places suggest that we are vying to get Walcott to return to St Mary's and would be willing to offer a wage package in the region of 100,000 a week.

Normally tabloid speculation can be dismissed, but rarely are the stories this weird.

Yes Southampton might be looking for a marquee signing to announce ourselves to the Premiership and add weight to Nigel's earlier words about Europe being the ultimate aim, but we aren't going to get that from somebody in Walcott's bracket, who if he does leave Arsenal, will be looking for a club already in Europe.

Southampton's best chance at such signings are those coming to the end of their careers but who can still do a damn fine job in the league, potential starlets from the lower leagues like we have done with Rodriguez and Clyne or a talent from abroad looking to get into the Premiership themselves.

Whilst it's a nice idea that Walcott would return to the Saints, you just can't see it happening.
