Nigel Adkins knows we are underdogs against Manchester City, but he's going to enjoy Sunday regardless.
Speaking to saintsfc ahead of the weekend clash against the Champions, the manager said firstly about how we will approach the toughness of the league.
'The Premier League is where everyone wants to manage, where every player wants to play and where every club wants to be. A couple of years ago our club was in administration, it's now not, a couple of years ago our club was in League One, it's now not it's in the Premier League and we've got people who want to keep pushing on and keep moving forward, which is an important message. There's going to be stages in the season when things might not go our way, but it's when we'll stick together, batten down the hatches and we'll keep our principles right.'
That's about a true for the season as a whole as it will be on Sunday when we face City. It's those qualities that will see us through the game, whatever happens.
'I can't wait. There's a big grin on my face and I'm looking forward to the start of the new campaign. It's about getting points now, it's about keeping a smile on people's faces and it's about promoting all the good things that are going on here at Southampton. At times we will come up against players that are better than us, but we have to be as smart as we can be to embrace that challenge and deal with it to give ourselves the opportunity to win.'
Whatever happens against City, everybody knows one result won't define our season, so we can just go there, enjoy it, and give the best account of ourselves that we can - and yes all being well that will include an upset proving the pundits wrong!
