Adkins Proud Despite Loss

Adkins Proud Despite Loss

Nigel Adkins has said he is proud of the efforts of the boys in today's unfortunate 3-2 loss to Manchester City.

Speaking to saintsfc following the game the gaffer praised the boys for their determination and desire in today's game, although he was disappointed we just couldn't hold on for a share of the spoils.

'I'm obviously very proud of the players, but it's about winning games of football, that's our endeavour. We've win consistently for the last two seasons and, coming in the Premier League, we've got to come up with ways to win and be smart enough to do it. I thought we started well, and we finished well. When we went 2-1 up, you thought 'could it be?' unfortunately it wasn't to be, but I'd like to think it has given our players a lot of confidence and belief.'

Despite the loss Adkins knows there is plenty to be pleased about from today, especially in terms of lessons learnt and lessons we need to learn as we progress further into the season.

'We've come to the Champions who only conceded 12 goals at home last season. Our defenders have played against the best attacking force they've ever played against, so lessons have to be learned about that. The yardstick is there, and the players now know they can compete. The lads deserve a lot of credit for what they've gone and done today.'
