'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rodriguez - No Change In Our Attitude

Jay Rodriguez has said that Southampton will be approaching the Wigan game in exactly the same manner as we did the Man City game, we'll have a plan to try and take all three points.

Speaking to saintsfc ahead of the game Jay said they knew that Wigan would be a different prospect from Man City, but that we'd be looking to the same intensity and commitment nontheless in an effort to win the game and get some points on the board.

'Wigan will be a massive challenge, we can't look at it lightly so we'll take it as if we are playing Manchester City away. We'll show our stuff, and hopefully get the win that we want.'

As for the City game, Jay was also complimentary about the squad's efforts, and like others have commented, agreed that the team will have learnt a lot about the league from the test we faced.

'It was an amazing feeling to walk out in front of all those people and play the best team in the league. I thought we gave a good account of ourselves, but the whole team learned a lot. It's a massive experience, but I thought we handled ourselves really well so we've come out with a bit of confidence because we were unlucky not to win. It was a great day and a great start to the season.'

We should see the team show they have learned, if nothing else, about the pace of the league when we face Wigan who will be more of a physical challenge in many ways. But it's certainly a game we shouldn't be afraid of, and it's a game we should go into positively looking for a win.

If we can perform like we did against City on a regular basis, we should have no worries about relegation as we'll pick up the points we need to consolidate our promotion.
