An Interview With Vital Villa

An Interview With Vital Villa

With us hosting Aston Villa this weekend, we grabbed the thoughts from Vital Villa.

With thanks to Mike_Field.

1) What are you expecting from the season?

After the last few seasons we've had, the majority of fans will simply be happy with some good football, some entertainment and passion from the team. Finishing anywhere around the middle of the table would do for most, leaving Lambert free to strengthen from a good base in the future.

2) Any highlights from the season so far?

The uplift in confidence and belief around the club again has been the clear highlight. Failing that Lowton's strike last weekend was an absolute peach!

3) Are you happy with your clubs business in the transfer window?

I did expect a bit more in the way of experience, because at the core we were already a young team lacking experience, but I can't fault the players Lambert targeted as it's the transfer policy we should've had years ago.

Hopefully that will be built on in the January window and then next summer.

4) Who is going to be your main dangerman when we play?

Bannan seems to be slowly growing into the midfield role properly and boy can he pick out a pass, but the biggest danger will be Christian Benteke following his debut, he'll be high on confidence and out to impress. I'd tell your defence to put their helmets on to be honest!

5) What are your weaknesses, any clues for the game will be appreciated :-)

Still too sloppy at points, positionally we are wasteful as there is still a lot of work and improvement to be done on our new style of play as well as players still learning what each other can do and what they will do. It's understanding we lack, but it's coming.

6) Have you been surprised with how Saints have performed so far?

No I thought you'd come up having been well drilled in your style and having a good understanding, but your performances have surprised many, especially against Man City.

7) Do you have any thoughts on Nigel Adkins?

Seems driven, ambitious and has shown he can do the job well with your promotions. Now is his biggest test, especially with your current run of results, can he handle the pressure and the media? Seems to be doing well though, and a lot of people need to remember the teams you've faced as you will have more winnable ones over the coming months though.

8) Has anyone stood out from our recent buys?

I wouldn't have minded us signing Nathaniel Clyne, think he's got a big future ahead of him, other than that Ramirez seemed to arrive with a flurry of headlines.

9) If you could take one of our players, who would it be and why?

Quite like the look of Adam Lallana from what I've seen of him.

10) Who do you see as our main threat in the game?

Lambert looks a handful, and I'm hoping Ron Vlaar takes care of him as I think he is a bit too big for Clark at the moment.

11) Finally, a prediction for the game please?

I think after Swansea we'll be flying high on confidence so I think we'll take it 2-1, but it'll be close.

I hear you're a friendly club. Looking forward to a bit of sea air and a beer or two, maybe some well aimed banter. We glow in the dark by the way. Watch out.
