'If It's Football, It's Vital'

An Interview With Talk Of The Tyne

We host Newcastle this weekend looking to build on the QPR result, so it was question time again.

With thanks to TNMW from our Vital Newcastle friends, Talk of the Tyne.

1) What are you expecting from the season?

Initially I was expecting good things but our fears of a weak squad are being realised. Top 8 would be success for us.

2) Any highlights from the season so far?

No real highlights apart from a good Europa cup run so far but as yet, we just haven't started.

3) Are you happy with your clubs business in the transfer window?

Easy question to answer this. A big fat NO!! We complained about our lack of defensive cover as well as the need to strengthen in other areas to keep the pressure on or try new formations but we've been found out on all levels. The club have this policy of not budging from their valuation but sometimes you have to pay a little over that to get a decent signing over the line. This stubbornness can cost us premier league prize money, European qualification or relegation if we're not careful.

4) Who is going to be your main dangerman when we play?

I would think that Ben Arfa will continue his good form but if we play anywhere near our potential then pick 1 from 6. Cisse, Ba, Ben Arfa, Shola, Sammy Ameobi, Jonas.

5) What are your weaknesses, any clues for the game will be appreciated :-)

Our biggest weakness apart from missing Coloccini and Cabaye is our confidence. It's near to rock bottom at the minute but with a European game on Thursday, this could change. On the playing side, Mike Williamson is nowhere near good enough to be playing for us.

6) Have you been surprised with how Saints have performed so far?

Not really as newly promoted sides always have spells where they either play really well and lose or play ok and win. I think it's the newness or teams not knowing how they will set up.

7) Do you have any thoughts on Nigel Adkins?

I don't really have many thoughts as he seems quite quiet as in, he's not on of these loud mouths who say or do controversial things, so I've not really paid much attention.

8) Has anyone stood out from our recent buys?

Again, there hasn't been a lot of coverage up here apart from the odd snippet on SSN but I've been following Nathaniel Clyne as we were linked with him. The people that stand out for me are the likes of Lallana and Ricky Lambert.

9) If you could take one of our players, who would it be and why?

Probably Ricky Lambert as he has something that we lack up front.

10) Who do you see as our main threat in the game?

Main threats are the two I've mentioned I think, that's if they're playing.

11) Finally, a prediction for the game please?

A prediction? Mmmm. Tricky. I feel it's all about us really. if we play to how we can then we'll win, simple as that, but we haven't played well at all for ages. I see a draw as a canny result which will stop the rot. 1-1.
