Jason Puncheon was delighted to find the net and take all three points but he's disappointed we didn't improve our goal difference during the game.
Speaking to saintsfc after the 1-0 victory drew us a little bit further away from the bottom three, Puncheon admitted he did have mixed emotions because he believes the scoreline could have been far more commanding.
'We were comfortably the best team and we could have won it by three or four, but we didn't take our chances. The point was to go out there and get three points, and that's what we've done.'
Puncheon now surprisingly is our second highest scorer after grabbing his fourth of the season today, but he's pleased in many ways that he's now finally starting to show his best following erm early mishaps might be the politically correct way of ending that sentence.
'It has taken some time, but I wouldn't change the way things have gone because it's worked out well. The club is in the Premier League where they said they were going to be and I'm playing, that's the main thing. I've matured as a person and as an adult, and those things are helping on and off the pitch and that's showing in my performances.'
In many ways it's good to hear him not crow he'd change everything and go with the cliches, because everything that has come before has changed him as a person and a player, and he really is looking like a Premiership quality wideman and reaching his peak. That probably wouldn't have happened had mistakes not occurred, and had he not had things to learn from...who does become themselves without a few knocks along the way?
Learn from it always and nobody can take that away from you, and nobody can take his performances away from him so far this term.
