'If It's Football, It's Vital'

I Thought The Keeper Had Saved It

Rickie Lambert has said he thought that his penalty against Fulham had been saved by the goalkeeper.

Speaking to saintsfc after his equiliser, Lambert said.

'Thank goodness I hit it so hard because I honestly thought Schwarzer saved it! It took me a while to celebrate the goal because I panicked.'

As for the game itself, Lambert admits it wasn't one of our best showings and he doesn't believe we can use the weather as an excuse, because we should've done better.

'I wasn't quite sure what happened, but there were shouts for handball and, luckily enough, he gave it. It wasn't one of our best games, but we got a point so we've got to be happy. The weather did affect the game but I'm not using that as an excuse because we still should have played better.'

With half the season gone, Lambert also believes the Saints are adapting well to the Premier League and that we are becoming stronger in defence and making it difficult for teams to score against us, which should stand us in good stead in the New Year.

'It's clear to see that teams are finding it hard to score against us, we're defending well at the minute. We were disappointed to go one nil down so early but, after that, they didn't really create any chances.'
