Terry's Delight At Honorary President Role

Terry Paine has spoken of his delight at being introduced as Southampton's Honorary President on New Year's Day.

Speaking to saintsfc following the announcement of the role and his introduction to St Mary's before the Arsenal game, Paine said.

'It feels like coming home. It's a tremendous honour for me, and a complete surprise. I've been in regular contact since the takeover, when they saved the club and put us back on a footing that has really paid dividends. Loyalty works both ways from the club and the player - or ex player, in this case. When we've had bad times, I've never deserted them. You go through hard times and good times, and at the moment it's all good! It's lovely to follow in the footsteps of someone like Ted Bates.'

In the interview Paine also discusses his time at the club and his moment of history with us.

I remember watching him at his peak and he could be brilliant on his day which he had a good few times. Showed his class by adapting late in his career and switching to midfield as his pace slowed.

Well before my time sadly, but good to see the club honouring past legends. Building for the future, but with a respectful nod to the past is always a nice touch.
