Adkins Up For The Cup

Adkins Up For The Cup

Nigel Adkins is looking for a 'special day' at St Mary's this weekend as we take on reigning FA Cup Champions Chelsea.

Speaking to saintsfc Adkins said he was looking forward to trying to get us on an FA Cup run this season as the team grow in confidence and belief following our improvements in the league.

'All the lads are looking forward to playing the current cup holders on Saturday. We want to win the game, we want to go on a cup run - it's the famous FA Cup and we're taking it seriously. We've only lost two games in the last ten, so we've got a good run of form about ourselves.'

It's likely Adkins may rotate the pack somewhat and it's expected Nathaniel Clyne will be passed fit in time for the game, but Adam Lallana will remain missing through injury.

'We've got a few little knocks but I'm sure everyone is going to put themselves forward for the game. We've got a group of players who have worked extremely hard over the last few weeks when the games have been coming thick and fast. That will come into consideration for the team selection, but we want to win the game, you do have to rotate the players because that's what they're there for.'

Don't matter much how up for it we are if Chelsea are as well. They have enough to hurt us. Just look at their bench on Saturday.

As long as we turn up and fight, putting in a performance we are capable of, I won't mind to be fair as the league is the priority but I fancy a little cup run to help build confidence more. We certainly don't want them to hand us our backsides though!

I can accept that as well.Hoping obviously that somehow we can keep the Mata's etc quiet for long enough to have a chance of what by most would be classed a surprise win. Main thing for me is to continue to show improvement.

League is definitely more important but this could be a good confidence bouy.
