What A Difference A Week Makes!

This time last week Saints had just been defeated 2-1 at Portman Road, the team was languishing in the bottom half of the table and Saints fans were beginning to wonder whether their Promotion aims at the start of the season were realistic.

Now after a fine performance away at Selhurst Park and a 1-0 win over Plymouth yesterday Saints fans are once again looking on the bright side. Although the game yesterday was not our best performance it was a much needed win and three points all the same.

George Burley seems now to have instilled a confidence in his side and they will be much tougher opposition from now on. The old Saints would have folded under the pressure of being 1-0 up for so long, but Burley's side was this time able to hold out.

Saints have got many reasons to be positive, in Gregorz Rasiak they have one of the Championship's leading goal scorers and in Rudi Skacel and Djamel Belmadi they have two tricky wingers that will provide a stern test for Championship defences. Skacel in particular seems to finally be showing the form that made him a cult hero at Tynecastle last season.

I suppose what I am trying to say is that all along we knew that Saints had a very talented team but only after two wins do the fans start to believe in the team.

George Burley, who this week appeared as the Championship's second favorite to be sacked will now be looking to prove the doubters wrong even further and lead Saints to promotion this season.
