Harry Redknapp still remains favourite to become the next Portsmouth manager. The farcical events on the south coast have drawn so much attention that betting exchange Betfair have had record amounts placed on the next Pompey boss. Most has been put on Redknapp, who is still the hot favourite for the job, despite still not being granted permission to speak to them.
Saints search for a new manager is currently being held up by the failure to negotiate a deal with Pompey for Redknapps compensation.
It would be in Saints best interests if the situation was sorted out sooner rather than later and Harry moved back to Fratton Park. Then Lowe could concentrate on getting the right man to take us back to the Premiership. It would also mean we aren't going to lose out to Pompey, which is a possibility if they're also looking for someone else.
Anti Niemi told Icons.com 'A strong leader is desperately needed and we have to find that person quickly. I know there aren't that many people available that fit into that category but I think the club has to do everything they can to find him' He also said the next appointment is vital as it could have 'all sorts of ramifications and consequences for the future of Southampton. If they get the right man, we could be a Premiership club again next season. If they make a bad choice, we could end up being a Championship club for years to come. It's a huge decision for the chairman'
