Former Saint Hoskins Looking Forward To Challenge

Having had the disappointment of being released by Saints it is good to see him being positive about his future. Sam Hoskins a 20-year-old striker last week agreed a two-year deal with Yeovil Town following his release from Southampton.

Sam may have been without a first team appearance to his name at Saints, but was a formidable talent at under-21 level and gained senior experience with loan spells at Preston North End, Rotherham United and Stevenage.

Now with the unenviable task of trying to replace two first choice strikers, Sam is relishing the competition. Instead of being daunted by the prospect of bettering the profitable strike partnership, Hoskins said the competition will improve him.

He said: 'I think that the competition brings the best out of players. If you've got competition you can't relax, you push on even more.'

The competition will certainly be tough as beating experienced front man James Hayter or 2012-13 League One top scorer Paddy Madden to the starting XI is no simple task.

One advantage of his move to Yeovil is that Sam is not far from his birthplace or Southampton. Family and friends are still close enough where he can maintain close contacts with both.

For me a tinge of sadness that one of our big hopes has departed from the club. Whatever happens I hope Sam can make a good career for himself.

Some players just need to drop a level or two to develop, hopefully it'll work for him as it has others.
