'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pochettino Happy With Fitness Levels

Mauricio Pochettino has said he was pleased to see the condition that the players returned in, as non of them had let themselves go over the summer.

To be fair the days of players letting themselves go seems long over with individual training plans to follow, but with fitness levels good, it does mean Poch will be able to get the footballs out earlier and start drilling the players quicker tactically.

With pre season training getting back underway this week, our manager told saintsfc.

'We're all very pleased with how they've arrived back from their holidays. I want to congratulate them because the plans that we gave them they've done really well with and followed thoroughly. They've really shown that they've prepared well during holidays and that helps us to carry out our pre season exercises in a much quicker way, it's going to aid our preparation even quicker.'

With Southampton heading abroad for 16 days, Pochettino adds that it's the perfect time to build a good and strong mentality between the players and the coaching staff, so everybody is willing to fight for their colleagues on the pitch and of course the better bonded a team are, the easier they can face challenges and keep spirits high in the dressing room.

The best thing about this is the fact that our players know that they have competition for places in the team and all want to play for the club's first team.

Yup. It's expected players will take care of themselves now, and it's good to see they all have as you'd have to ask questions of somebody who ignored their training plan over the summer wouldn't you.
