'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Point Was Fair For Poch

Well I don't think anybody thought the events within the Newcastle game was on the cards did they.

We saw a referee go down easier than Ashley Young normally does, but at least in the ref's favour, there was a good contact. We saw a handbag brawl between goalkeeping coaches, and yet not one of them slapped a pair of goalie gloves around the others' chops and challenged their opposition to a duel.

We also saw some perfectly hard but fair challenges get punished presumably because contact is no longer allowed in the game - I bet the ref wished that was true!

In amongst all of this though, there was actually a game and on that score, our manager thought that a share of the points was the fairest result for both teams.

Speaking to saintsfc following the game Pochettino explained that following what was a disappointing first half by our standards especially, he was delighted with how the players picked themselves up and went in the second half.

'The first half and second half were very different. The first 45 were quite open and both sides were getting forward and creating good chances, then I think we dominated in the second half and we could have gone and got the win, so the overall analysis is probably that a draw is a fair result.'

Another pleasing thing for the manager would be the continued goal scoring form of Jay Rodriguez, who helped himself to his third goal in four games to grab our leveller.

Of course, whilst a victory would've been preferred, we are now back on a mini unbeaten run following those disappointing recent results and that will again be a source of confidence for the camp.

During this time we have also lost a number of players to injury, and although others have stepped up manfully, losing first choice players does always take it's toll, so the fans are probably with the gaffer when he adds that as players return, he would expect us to start showing better form again and picking up those victories that have alluded us lately.

Of course for the future, those who have stepped in during the meantime will also benefit, and for the younger lads who have played maybe a few more minutes than otherwise would've been expected, it's something for them to work on during training, learn from and they should be better for this experience.

Poch however, at least in his official site interview, didn't address the handbags. That may have been wise?

And yes I have chosen this photo specifically, kind of has a Reservoir Dogs feel about it don't you think!
