'If It's Football, It's Vital'

It's Behind You - The Stand, Leave The Dug Out!

One of the talking points from yesterday's match against Newcastle United was the mini set two between the respective goalkeeping coaches. Both manager's have had their say.

The quotes are everywhere to be honest. Alan Pardew basically laughed it off and whilst it's not a regular occurrence in terms of things going that far, it's not unknown for respective benches to take issue with things.

'It was a bit of panto season. I'm not going to get carried away with that because it shouldn't take the headlines. The battle is on the pitch and that was a terrific battle. The one on the sidelines was pretty pathetic, what I saw of it, and best forgotten.'

Pardew adds that in the heat of the moment, two people keeping their heads were the gaffers and both agreed to simply 'get the staff in' and get on with it, because both of them wanted to get back to on pitch matters in an effort to take all three points, and that's exactly what you'd expect from both of them isn't it.

Mauricio Pochettino himself said of the incident.

'What happened is not a good example, it's not good for football. From our point of view, we are going to try our best not to let it happen again because it's not good for anyone and not good for the sport. It's avoidable, but in a high intensity game such as that, any little spark can lead to something and I think that's what happened.'

Poch equally talked about not making it out to be a big thing because the focus should be the game of football that fans saw, not the handbags on the touchline.

I'm contradicting myself given I've just wrote this, but they are both right. It's fair game for comment for a few hours really, ignoring it daftly would be like trying to ignore it simply because it paints a bad light on the club - but it was a moment in time, where all tempers frayed a bit, and these things happen.

Move on, learn from it, and if you can take anything from daft handbags like that - it proves the staff on both sides care deeply and it was really only verbals, but that doesn't mean it should happen again.

At least the panto crack is right, it's the right time of year for it isn't it!
