'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Clinical Boxing Day For Jay

Jay Rodriguez helped himself to a brace in today's victory over Cardiff, and he couldn't have been more pleased come full time.

Speaking to saintsfc following the match, and our third away win of the season, Rodriguez praised the team for how clinical we were both in front of goal (he can praise himself, we don't mind!) but also in our passing and the way we created chances to give us the best shot of getting the result we wanted.

'I'm obviously pleased to score and Rickie has set me up a treat for the second, which I was grateful for. I think we'd agree that we were clinical today. We were very well drilled and we did the job we had come to do and we got three points.'

Rodriguez goes on to say that the players simply stuck with what we'd been trying to do over this spell of results because they did now it would work again for us, but everybody was naturally delighted that this was vindicated in some ways today by having a victory such as this, and even though the team spirit has always been there he admits it's a relief the result went for us, and now the task will be to make sure that this is the start of a run again to prove that everybody was right to stick with what we were doing rather than overly change things.

In the remainder of the interview, JayRod again goes on to say what an honour it was representing his country, but he's very pleased that he's been able to kick on from that achievement by continuing to score goals because it shows he took the most from the experience in terms of confidence and self belief and definitely didn't think 'he'd made it' because he knows he need to keep improving and that has proven to be the perfect spur for him.
