Clyne Happy With Pitch Return

Right back Nathaniel Clyne has said he was delighted to get back on the pitch again today with a second half run out in the defeat to Chelsea.

Clyne replaced Luke Shaw at half time to get 45 minutes under his belt and speaking to saintsfc following the match he said that he felt fine and he didn't feel that he was that far off full match fitness now and a proper return to first team contention.

'I'm not at match sharpness, but hopefully that will come with games. Unfortunately I got injured in the Villa game which set me back, but I've worked hard to get to where I am now, I feel fit and I feel ready to go again.'

Obviously his run out came in the more unfamiliar left back slot, and during his interview he also took time out to praise the lad who has replaced him in recent times - Calum Chambers - explaining that it was always good to have competition within a club for places and Calum had certainly done himself favours with the levels of his performances in recent games, so he's looking forward to getting back properly fit and sharp and then battling it out for the first team spot again.

As for the game, he also refused to blame the conditions on the day for the loss, pointing simply to the quality of the opposition and how hard they made it for Saints to get into their own rhythm on the day and impose themselves on the match properly.

He knows we had a few opportunities, but unfortunately we didn't make them count and we haven't come out of the game with the result that everybody was hoping for - so it's back to training now, and onto the next game.
