'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Poch - The Subs Changed The Game

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has conceded that Chelsea's double substitution in the second half more than swung the game in their favour and we weren't able to cope with them how we would've liked following that change.

Speaking to saintsfc following the three nil loss, Pochettino really just had to hold his hands up to their quality with both substitutions playing their parts in all three goals on the day.

'It's clear that Oscar and Willian came on and revitalised a Chelsea side that until that point weren't doing too great. Up until that point in the first hour we played really well and we created lots of chances.'

Pochettino goes on to say that the first goal they scored was a bit unfortunate for us because of the deflection it took, but there's no denying in his mind that following their opener 'we suffered a lot.'

Just one of those days sadly, but following our start to the league campaign it is disappointing to see us fail to win in so many games now.

Hopefully we can get back to winning ways in the Cup when we face Burnley this weekend, and the gaffer has already said he intends to rotate the squad again for that clash and it will no doubt also not see Luke Shaw involved after he was substituted after he admitting he was struggling in the first half with the toe injury he sustained in the game against Everton.

'The FA Cup comes at a good time, we need to maintain our mentality because we want to put out a fresh side that will be able to compete. It's clear that it has been quite some run of games in a short space of time and we have faced a lot of the top sides, which has made things even more difficult.'

Putting out the fringe players we should be able to nicely compete with Burnley and secure progression in the Cup, but it does give players and those carrying knocks a bit of a spell out to freshen up themselves and the hopefully we can get back to the sort of run we were on and start picking up victories again.
