'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Woodward Happy

Sir Clive Woodward is determined to prove his critics wrong but realises many people would like to see him 'fall flat on his face'.

Woodward is Southamptons performance director - whatever that is - and his final goal is to make the full transation to football manager. Well, if he waits long enough, lets face it, we get through enough managers, he is bound to get his turn.

He told The Observer 'I'm sure there are prejudiced people who think I shouldn't be here, but that was always going to happen. A lot of people would like to see me fall flat on my face. That's human nature but that's been the story of my life. People have often told me what I can't do rather than what I can do.'

He also admits he wants to get back to team management and sees this as his way in 'It is a way of of getting me into football in a way that I can justify my salary. You're not under the pressure the manager is under but I'd like to get back into that situation at some stage. I do enjoy it.'
