'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gallagher Signs On Until 2018

Youngster Sam Gallagher has put an end to all the nonsensical speculation about his future by signing a new contract with the club today.

Earlier today the young striker extended his stay at St Mary's until the summer of 2018, with the 18 year old making his first team break through this term, making his debut in the Capital One Cup back in November, and then going on to play 19 times in total, scoring twice in the Yeovil and Norwich games.

Speaking to saintsfc after penning the deal, Gallagher said.

'It's been a big year for me and this just tops it off, really. I'm very happy and very proud. I won't forget this day.'

Gallagher goes on to say that this deal is different from a players' first pro deal as this one is a proper contract in many ways, and a lot harder to get because it means a player has to have done enough to impress in their 12 month spell as a 'professional' because getting a pro deal doesn't mean you have made it.

'This time last year I'd have never really thought I'd be getting this contract yet. I thought I'd have to battle it out to get one, but this gives me that bit of security, so I know that, if I can keep going, the club will repay me.'

The aim for Gallagher now is to push on every further next season and hopefully get a few more appearances and starts especially, under his belt but he is expecting pre season with the first team to be a bit of an eye opener, but all he can do is knuckle down and keep working hard.
