Southampton Look Set To Be Koemaned

With media reports now heavily suggesting that Ronald Koeman will be appointed as our gaffer sometime this week, having returned from holiday today I believe, the story has now taken a new turn and not only has our assistant manager now been announced, but apparently we already have a player linked.

Agents for both Ronald, and his brother Erwin have spoken to Voetbal International, and starting with Ronald's agent, Guido Albers, he said.

'He wants to make a next step in his career at an ambitious club with possibilities. Southampton fits in that profile. Pochettino made a solid base and Ronald is the ideal candidate to build the squad from there.'

With talks apparently going on for a number of weeks now after Koeman impressed our Chairman Ralph Kruegur and Executive Director Les Reed in the initial interview, links now to his brother taking the reigns as assistant manager really do imply this is very close to being a done deal.

Erwin's agent Kees Ploegsma, added.

'It's correct there are talks. They want Ronald to be manager and his brother Erwin as his assistant.'

As for CV's, Ronald obviously played for the Dutch national team, and has the slightly better managerial record, but both have good managerial experience in their own right.

Ronald has managed at the likes of Ajax, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, whilst Erwin has held the reigns at Feyennord, FC Twente, RKC Waalwijk whilst also spending a spell as the Hungarian national coach.

Could be interesting once he adjusts if this is a done deal.

However, it's also being reported that Galatasaray will make a last ditch effort to tempt him to them.

As for the signing, it's suggested that Southampton are already expressing an interest in Celtic's Dutchman, Virgil van Dijk.

Sky Sports are literally now reporting that he has agreed to take on the role according to sources, and an announcement is expected imminently.
