Koeman Confirmed

Koeman Confirmed

Ronald Koeman has been appointed as our new manager ahead of the 2014-15 campaign, and has signed a three year deal with us.

The Dutch legend replaces Mauricio Pochettino in the hotseat following his departure to Tottenham Hotspur, and as expected, his brother Erwin has been appointed as our assistant manager.

Koeman has also brought with him his assistant from Feyenoord, Jan Kluitenberg who will take the role of first team coach/physical coach.

In his opening interview which is quoted by the Daily Echo it was also said that a 'high calibre' goalkeeping coach will be appointed to our backroom staff in the very near future as well.

'I am thrilled to be the manager of Southampton Football Club. From my very first meeting with Les Reed, I could see clearly that this was the right club for me. We share the same philosophy of football, and the same belief in how to develop the club. Southampton have a talented first team squad, a world class academy and the infrastructure to sustain success in the Premier League.'

Koeman adds that the chance and opportunity to continue the development was simply too good an offer for him to turn down.

Having formally received the contract offer on Friday, he arrived at the club today to sign the deal and make everything official.

Executive Director Les Reed said of the appointment.

'We are extremely pleased to have secured a new manager of Ronald Koeman's calibre and status within the game. In appointing Ronald we have concluded our search for a manager who shares our values and vision for the future of Southampton.'

Reed says that having done their due diligence on him, he quickly established himself as our number one choice, and that was apparent to the board from the very first meeting having heard him talk about his plans for the club and what he wants to achieve with us.

Welcome to the club Ronald.
