EHC Hoensbroek 0-4 Southampton

EHC Hoensbroek 0-4 Southampton

New manager Ronald Koeman's first game in charge and our first summer friendly ahead of the new season ended with a comprehensive and comfortable victory for us.

Youngster Sam McQueen gave us the perfect start after 11 minutes by putting us one nil in front, and fellow youngster Calum Chambers doubled our advantage just before the half time whistle.

A not often typed name since joining us, Billy Sharp scored our third from the spot, as he was one of eleven changes at half time as Koeman completely shuffled the pack to give everyone a 45 minute run out, and then Steven Davis completed the scoring with undoubtedly the goal of the game shortly afterwards.

It was Sharps first appearance for us in the best part of two seasons.

Koeman went for a mixed starting line up, including both experienced pros and our youngsters and Jose Fonte skippered us in the first period. The second period was much the same, and new signing Dusan Tadic make his uncompetitive debut for us since joining us a few days, and in terms of making debuts he was joined by Academy graduates Jason McCarthy, Jake Flannigan and Matt Targett.
