Schneiderlin Won't Play Final Friendly

Manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin isn't physically or mentally right to play in the final friendly of the summer.

Bayer Leverjusen visit St Mary's on Saturday and the gaffer has already ruled out the player and explained that he has a few days to effectively sort himself out.

Speaking to saintsfc he explained.

'We spoke to Morgan this morning and the situation is difficult because the player makes it difficult. I spoke to Morgan with our chairman and the situation has not changed. We don't sell Schneiderlin and he has to accept that. He is tomorrow not in the squad because he said he is not in a physical but even more not in a mental way prepared for tomorrow.'

Koeman goes on to say that he does understand that and in understanding it they have given Morgan the weekend to 'think about this situation' and then on Monday in our next training session they will speak again and hopefully everyone will prepare for the Liverpool game.

'You can continue as a football player of Southampton and now it's up to him.'

Koeman adds that obviously he's pleased to be keeping Schneiderlin because he's a very good player and a key member of the team, and having lost some players so far, he's pleased with how the team reads at the moment but obviously he would like to add at least another two or three to make sure we are as prepared for the season as we can be.
