Puel - We Deserved Something From Tottenham

Manager Claude Puel has been speaking about how he felt Southampton had deserved something from the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Heading to White Hart Lane, Southampton found themselves two goals down going into the half time break, and with James Ward-Prowse's second half strike giving hope of a comeback it sadly didn't happen.

With us also losing Marco Gabbiadini to injury on the 32 minute mark, Puel told saintsfc that he felt the valiant efforts of the players on the day had at least warranted a point.

'I think it was a good performance without a good result. It was a strange first-half because we have taken two goals without pressure from the opponent. It was difficult at half-time to come back into the dressing room having let in two goals.'

Puel went on to say that whilst their penalty was difficult to accept, he felt we had a perfectly strong call of our own ignored when Dusan Tadic went down in their box.

'The second goal, the penalty is difficult to accept because we could not make the change of Shane with the injury to Gabbiadini. If the referee gives this penalty then he can do the same at the other end with Dušan Tadic. That was important and could have made a difference because I think both teams played at a good level. For me, a draw would have been normal.'

Ahead of the game Gabbiadini had been called into the Italy squad for their World Cup qualifier this month against Albania and a friendly against Netherlands, but depending on the severity of his injury we'll have to see if he's now withdrawn and that was the way Puel was edging in his post game interviews but hopefully it's one of those where rest of the international break will see him back at full speed.
