Davis Gets MBE

Davis Gets MBE

Southampton and Northern Ireland midfielder has been awarded an MBE for services to football and sport in Northern Ireland.

Southampton announced the news late yesterday evening following the publication of the honours list, and Davis admitted it was 'completely unexpected'.

Speaking to saintsfc after learning about he award the Northern Ireland skipper explained.

'It was completely unexpected. I found out a couple of weeks ago. I was pulled into the office and told the good news, and, to be honest, I was a bit taken aback and thought it was a wind up or something! It`s a huge honour and something I never really had my mind on whatsoever. To get the news, I just felt so much pride and hugely honoured.'

With 95 caps to his name following his debut back in the game against Canada in February 2005, he was handed the skipper's armband by Nigel Worthington in October 2011 and has since led his country to their first major tournament in the last 40 years.

'I have enjoyed every single game I have played for Northern Ireland. I haven`t really given it too much thought about getting to 100 caps now, I just enjoy going away with the national team and we are in a good period at the moment. I want to play for the country for as long as possible. There have been so many highlights, with the EUROS being one of the best experiences of my life. We want more of that now.'

Congratulations!
