Duo Talk New Southampton Deals

Duo Talk New Southampton Deals

Both Sam Gallagher and Jack Stephens have been speaking about their new deals with Southampton this weekend.

21 year old Gallagher penned a new four year deal following his loan spell out with Blackburn Rovers last season and speaking to saintsfc after penning his deal, he was clearly delighted with the extension.

'I am absolutely delighted to sign this new contract. Especially to get it all done and dusted before the start of the season because I can really get my head down and focus now on the year ahead. This contract shows the belief that the club have in me and I need to prove that now, which is what I am hoping to do in pre-season.'

Reflecting on his time at Ewood Park that saw him score 12 times, he knew it had been a positive spell for him even if it ended with a disappointing relegation into League One.

'It was definitely a big season for me. I knew that before I went into it. I was delighted to go to such a big club and somewhere that had such a good training ground and facilities. I scored a few goals early on which really helped me out and gave me the confidence to settle down - the fans really helped me as well. I definitely thank Blackburn a lot for last season. It has helped me grow both as a person and a player. It`s a club that I have massive respect for.'

As for 23 year old Stephens, he said he had no hesitation in signing a new five year deal especially with the way the year ended for him with first team involvement.

'Obviously I am absolutely delighted to extend my stay. It feels like home to me. I have really enjoyed my time here and am now looking forward to the next five years. It`s a massive platform for me now because it just shows how much faith the club have put in me. The club has helped and supported me for six years and I know that will continue over the next five years, and that was a massive reason for me signing the extension.'

Having made his first team breakthrough following the injury to Virgil van Dijk in January, Stephens went on to play 23 times for the first team and it's left him hungry for more.

'It was a brilliant season for me personally. I felt really confident towards the end having come in and taken my chance. I am looking forward to pushing on and building on that now. I think it`s important that I keep wanting to improve. The club keeps developing and improving, so I need to keep working hard to keep my place in the team.'
