Pellegrino & Davis Reflect On Positive Week
Manager Mauricio Pellegrino and midfielder Steven Davis have been reflecting on a positive week out in Austria following Saturday's scoreless draw with St Gallen.
Having spent the best part of a week away with the players, it wasn't just fitness that was the aim of the trip, it enabled Pellegrino to better get to know the group and in turn the group get to know him and with a Staplewood return on Monday for another heavy week of training ahead of our French training camp seven days later, Pellegrino told saintsfc that Austria had been very important for a variety of reasons.
'Not just on the pitch, it's about our style of training sessions and just to see how the players react. Every week for us is crucial, because we don't have too much time. We will play another four games, which is not too much, but we have to try to do our best every single day. We are expecting the other players that will arrive next week and hopefully it will be better for us.'
As for Davis, he spoke of it being a good week out and although the St Gallen friendly ended scoreless, he knew the 45 minutes that most people got would certainly be an advantage moving forward over the coming weeks.
'It`s been positive, it`s been a good week and it`s obviously early days in terms of the manager getting his ideas across to the players. It was nice to get 45 minutes under our belts. It wasn`t the best of games but it`s good to get that fitness.'
Speaking more about the set up at the Austria training camp, Davis was impressed with the facilities and he felt we'd had a good start, but obviously there was still some way to go ahead of August's Premier League kick off.
'It was a really good set up where we were in Austria with nice facilities. It was a good chance for us to get some work done on the training pitch and we`re trying to implement the manager`s ideas in the games. We saw some of the things he`s looking for but there`s a lot to work on and improve on.'
