Stephens Relishing Premier League Kick Off

Stephens Relishing Premier League Kick Off

With Southampton's pre season preparations now done and dusted as we head into the final week of training ahead of the Premier League kick off, centre half Jack Stephens has said he feels that victory over Sevilla in the last game leaves us in a great position for next Saturday's tie against Swansea City.

Taking the two nil victory at St Mary's last weekend, Stephens told saintsfc in his own post game press conference that everybody feels ready for the new season now.

'We`ve had enough of pre-season now. It`s been really hard and we`ve enjoyed it, but it`s nothing compared to the season and we want that to start as soon as possible. We are very much looking forward to next Saturday. I think the clean sheet against Sevila is pleasing for me and the team. It gives us something to build on for next week and the season coming forward.'

With Stephens finding the net in the first half before a late Manolo Gabbiadini effort sealed the game, the 23 year old went on to say that having lost heavily to Augsburg in the last game it was important Southampton got back to winning ways and put in a good performance.

'Having lost so heavily on Wednesday it was important. We needed to react to that and make sure we put in a good performance in our last performance to build momentum. It`s always nice to get a goal and that`s a bonus. But first and foremost for us as a defence a clean sheet is what we want.'
