Pellegrino Content With Manchester United Loss
Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has said that following our performance against Manchester United yesterday, he's confident that if we repeat that we'll win more games than we lose moving forward.
Hosting Jose Mourinho's side at St Mary's, Southampton were clearly the better side on the day but they took the narrow one nil victory with Romelu Lukaku finding the net, and with our lack of goalscoring form, our dominance couldn't produce an equaliser.
Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media for his post game press duties, Pellegrino was obviously disappointed with the final result but he knew there were a number of positives he could take.
'Football is about efficiency and you have to score goals. We couldn`t do that and it`s something we have to improve. The good news is that we played really well against one of the biggest teams in the Premier League, and we can look to the future with optimistic feelings. Playing this way we will win more games than we lose. It was a good game to see where we are against this type of team.'
With a number of good chances falling our way, but ultimately being squandered, he went on to say.
'Scoring goals is the most difficult thing in modern football. As a manager you can work out how to create chances, how to get into the final third and how to penetrate the defensive system of the opponent, but sometimes it depends on confidence and football things. If we keep playing in this way, we will score goals.'
He went on to say.
'I was talking with my team and I say that this is the way we have to keep going. We can have a clear conscience because we did everything. Our conclusion is that we have to continue in this way - with this spirit and staying humble. At the same time we have to improve something every single week, and we have another test next week.'
