Long & Yoshida Take The Positives

Shane Long and Maya Yoshida have both focused in on the positives that Southampton can take from the defeat to Manchester United.

Losing one nil to United in yesterday's clash at St Mary's, Southampton were clearly the better side but an inability to find the back of the net again bit us.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media following the game, a disappointed Long explained.

'I thought we deserved more from the game. United are a very good side, they have quality all over the pitch and are dangerous from set pieces. To limit them to one goal is a credit to our performance and it`s a shame that we just couldn`t find an equaliser at the other end."'

With Stoke up next, the aim was to repeat that performance but be far better in front of goal so we can go into the international break on the back of a win.

'There are a lot of positives to take. We`ve struggled to create recently but that wasn`t the case today; I was inches from getting on the end of something on a few occasions and Oriol Romeu put one just past the post. The boys put in a great shift out there. We can kick on to next week knowing how well we performed here this afternoon.'

As for Yoshida, he was also disappointed with the final result but again knew there were plenty of things Southampton could take from the game.

'The feeling is disappointment, but it`s still positive in the dressing room because while we couldn`t win, in the second-half we dominated a lot playing against a team top of the table. I think the problem, since the end of last season we haven`t scored that many goals and we have to be more clinical. Defensively, we`ve been much better and more aggressive.'

He went on to say.

'Manchester United created maybe two chances and scored one goal. That`s what happens against the top teams. The most important thing is that we need to win the next game against Stoke before the next international break.'
