Tight Brighton Game For Pellegrino

Tight Brighton Game For Pellegrino

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has reflected on a 'tight game' against Brighton this weekend and admitted we failed to build on our early advantage.

Heading to the Amex Stadium for the game, Steven Davis gave Southampton the perfect start as he found the back of the net in the seventh minute. Unfortunately that was our only registered shot on target and Glenn Murray had the hosts back on level terms shortly into the second half.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media, Pellegrino knew that we had to learn lessons from the tie as we didn't capitalise on the early lead.

'It was a really tight game with not too many chances for either team. We have one point and the good thing is that we competed well, but at the same time we have to learn to play with more determination to score the second one earlier in this type of situation.'

Pellegrino went on to say.

'We have to learn to build the game when we have that opportunity, because in the Premier League all of the teams have got the quality to create problems. It`s not a good moment to play against Brighton away because they are really high mentally and physically. At the beginning we were okay and in control, doing well positionally and playing with tempo. But we have to be more clinical and convert good starts into goals.'

Sky Sports also have him saying about the season as a whole so far.

'I think it is a season with ups and downs. In terms of results, I think we deserve a little bit more in terms of points but our league now is really close between 10 and 12 teams from the bottom of the table until sixth. It is really tight and we have 13 points, so we are in this group.'
