Austin Sidelined For Two Months

Austin Sidelined For Two Months

Southampton have confirmed that striker Charlie Austin could be set for a two month spell on the sidelines having picked up a potential hamstring tear.

The 28 year old forward suffered the suspected problem following the one all draw with Huddersfield Town, but fearing the worst, manager Mauricio Pellegrino has said that the club are waiting on scans to find out the severity of the issue.

Austin scored the goal against Huddersfield but was forced to limp off late in the game and if there is a silver lining to the injury, it will come from the fact that he's now serving a three game ban for his kick on goalkeeper Jonas Lossl during the game.

Pellegrino explained to Sky Sports.

'Charlie, I think he will be out more than normal, this evening (Thursday) he will have another test to analyse a little bit better his injury, the grade of his injury. We will see but I expect Charlie will be out for a couple of months, minimum. It is a big pity because Charlie was in a really good moment.'

With Southampton suffering goalscoring issues this year, with Austin being the leading scorer with six, including five in the last seven matches, he will obviously be a loss but Pellegrino will be looking for Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini in particular to step up.

'OK it is something that happens but the good news for Shane and Manolo is that they will have more minutes to compete and it's a possibility for them.'
