Every Game Is Now A Cup Final - Cedric

Southampton full back Cedric Soares has said that the side need to approach every game left this year in the Premier League as a Cup Final to ensure we pull away from the relegation zone.

Having gone six unbeaten ahead of the defeat to Liverpool at the weekend, a lack of wins has always been the concern so far this year as we've more struggled to hit the back of the net and the two nil defeat did send us into the bottom three.

Speaking to saintsfc as he met with the media following the defeat, a disappointed Cedric admitted a Cup Final attitude was now needed to ensure we ended the year on a high and put our struggles behind us.

With eleven games still to play, he explained.

'We need to come together as a collective, not as individuals, and fight as one. This is the only solution. We have experienced players. I include myself in that group, having been here for three years now, and I am trying to push for everyone.'

Cedric went on to say.

'We need to come together, speak to everyone and push each other. Nobody will help us. The fans have been supporting us all the way, but it needs to come from us, our inside. Every game is a final for us. We don`t just need to play them, we need to win them. It`s our thought, and it`s the way we will face it. I will make sure I put this idea in every head.'

Reflecting on the Liverpool game more specifically, he also said nobody would use their quality as an excuse for the loss as the players know they are capable of being better than what we were on the day.

'We started the game well in the first half, but we suffered with a goal we shouldn`t have suffered in that moment. We had a good reaction after the first goal, but then they scored a second goal very similar to the first one. After that, we went a little bit down and the second half was not the greatest reaction we should have.'

He ended by saying.

'We knew about the pace they have up front. Everyone knows that Liverpool have a very good squad, but it`s not really just about that. It`s also about us. If you are all on the same page, we would not worry about it. It does not matter if we play Liverpool, Man City, Manchester United...whatever. We need to come together and fight.'
