Howard returns to Southampton

Brian Howard came through the youth ranks at Southampton and returns today to face them as he lines up for Barnsley.

He told the Echo: 'We're getting to the business end of the season and it's going to be a tough game because both sides need to pick up points, albeit for different reasons.'

While Stewart Henderson reminisced about his first sighting of the player: 'I was with Alan Stevens, a scout of ours, and Brian wouldn't stop smacking goals so I spoke to his dad.

'That was his first introduction.

'He signed associate schoolboy forms but unfortunately didn't make the breakthrough into the first team here.
