'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Burley's Reaction - The Surman Show!

Burley - "His parents are season-ticket holders and will be very proud and those goals could be vital"

SOUTHAMPTON boss George Burley could hardly hide his delight at seeing his side put five past Barnsley and witnessing Andrew Surman get his hat-trick.

Andrew Surman got 3 of Southampton's five goals in this afternoons game at St Marys, Striker Kenwyne Jones got Saints other two as Southampton destroyed Barnsley.

Speaking after the match Burley said 'Andrew has worked hard in training and has got his reward today.

'Sometimes, when the young players see someone like Gareth Bale go straight into the team at 17, they get frustrated.

'There are few players who play at this level at that age and Andrew has been patient and waited for his chance.

'He went out on loan to Bournemouth but, since he's come back, he has been a regular in my team.

'He has been out with a knee injury for the last five weeks but hopefully he can stay fully fit between now and the end of the season and play a part in our promotion bid.

'His parents are season-ticket holders and will be very proud and those goals could be vital come the end of the year.'

Speaking about the game itself Burley went on to say 'It was a great result for us because we needed to win today to keep the momentum going... We started poorly giving away an early goal... but we showed alot of character to come back'
