Having disposed of Barnsley, Saints are up to 4th in the Championship and come the end of the week, they could be as high as 2nd!
Seems hard to believe and at half time on Saturday you would not have thought it remotely possible, with Saints in one of their spells of failing to punish a side that looked poor on paper and even worse on grass. Switch-off defenders and long punts up field did not help Saints' cause, but the second period saw a team with a sense of urgency with everyone playing nearer their full potential. 5 goals was a just reward for the level of application.
It could be that Saints are beginning to roll and there are a number of plus points in their favour: more players are starting to get on the score sheet; competition for places is getting stronger, with Pele on the bench (expect him to return at Coventry, given Ostlund's dodgy defending) and Belmadi looking eager to go again. The addition of Saga to Jones and Rasiak gives the manager the chance to rotate 3 credible central strikers and at the other end Kelvin Davis has begun to deal competently with high crosses.
Progression up the table of course depends in part on what other teams do, but this week sees a number of the top ten playing each other and given favourable results a further rise is feasible.
It would be good to see the fans turn out in numbers for the Ipswich match on Saturday to back up the teams efforts.
