Surman the Saint

Surman the Saint

Andrew Surman is delighted with the new ticket prices and hopes it will encourage younger fans to Southampton, just like he was when he was younger.

Speaking to the official site: when we came to live here, I was thrilled because it meant I could go and watch them regularly.

I had never been in a football stadium before and I loved it. They had just made The Dell all-seater and my parents bought season tickets.

'The first game I ever saw was the 4-3 home defeat by Nottingham Forest when Matthew Le Tissier got a hat-trick on the opening day of the 1995-96 season.

From then on I watched Saints pretty much every week, cheering on the likes of Tiss and Jason Dodd and Claus Lundekvam who is now a team-mate!

'It was a big part of my life. I loved watching the team play and I would hate that opportunity to be denied to other youngsters.

It is so important to get kids in. Once you have experienced a game, you just want to keep coming back.

'I loved it and I would love other youngsters to have the same opportunity as I did. If prices are too expensive, it puts people off and you lose them.

I think the new season ticket prices will definitely encourage children to come to games and it is good to see them being reduced for adults and senior citizens too.'
