Twin Awards Imminent For Bale?

Saints young star Gareth Bale is one of the favourites in line to land the Coca-Cola Championship Young player of the Year trophy 2007 at the Football League Awards later today.

He is also inline for Championship Player of the Year; this would make a remarkable double award of two of the most prestigious awards outside of the Premiership.

Bale, has scored 5 times so far this season and has become notorious for his now trade mark curling free kicks on goal he is also Wales' youngest ever international and goal scorer.
He has previously won other awards such as the BBC Wales Young Sports Personality of the Year and PowerAde player of the month for August.

Bale`s young team mate, Andrew Surman is delighted for Gareth Bale and speaking to the Southern Daily Echo he said:

'He fully deserves it and he will probably need a huge trophy cabinet by the sounds of it because he has going to have quite a few trophies,'

'He has been excellent for us. He has had a lot of media hype but for a 17 year-old he has dealt with it really well.

'He is still level headed.'

'It is good to see another player from the academy progressing and it is good for the club.

'It is a positive reflection on the academy.'

Saints boss George Burley also back Southampton`s young prodigy and said:

'The club has invested a lot of money in the academy and we have got some great people working in it,' he said.

'Gareth has had a lot of help from all the coaching staff in the academy and the first team.

'It is great for him to be noticed and that says a lot for the club because bringing players through is a very important part of this club.'
