Surman backs Burley

Southampton lad Andrew Surman has backed gaffer George Burley to steer Saints to the Premiership.

Southampton take on Preston tonight in what is well known as a 6 pointer and Surman told the official site: 'He has a great track record and his experience will be invaluable. We will need that if we end up in the play-offs.

He knows what this league is about and gives us confidence. He wants us to be strong and has told us there is no reason we should not still go up automatically.

'He knows what it takes to get out of this division and automatic promotion is still very much the target.

If we win tonight, we will be right up there and if we keep it going until the end of the season then we can get one of those top two places.'
