League move to end draws

League move to end draws

The football league have made a move to end draws, with every league game ending in stalemate going to penalties.

Lord Brian Mawhinney told the press: 'I suggested that for drawn matches each team gets a point and then maybe the team that wins a penalty shoot-out gets an extra point. Managers may hate shoot-outs but fans love them.'

While Burley added: 'I have to say I think it's a ridiculous suggestion.

'Draws are part and parcel of the game - I know in America they don't agree with draws but it's part of the culture of football and you get points for a draw as well as a win.

'I really do think this is crazy. They're looking for things to try and change, which are not necessary, and once you start changing things like that you're going to ruin the game.'
