Former loan signing Darren Potter is the latest former Saint to come up against his old side.
Potter moved to Wolves in the summer and he is looking to take the points from Southampton this weekend.
He believes that if Wolves win, Southampton will be unable to catch the Midlands club.
He told the official site: 'If we do beat them we'll be nine points ahead of them and we can push their noses out of the situation, which is what we want to do.
We are at home and I think that will give us the edge, especially with a big crowd behind us.
'We will be fully expecting to get three points from that game. They beat us earlier in the season and we want to put that behind us and set the record straight.'
'Sunderland will be a big one, but we've got to get past Southampton first.
It's never easy when you're playing the teams down below who are scrapping for points, but when you're playing teams around you, you tend to deal with it better. Playing Southampton and Sunderland will give us a boost which is what we need.'
