Best deal to be done

Southampton are set to continue talks with striker Leon Best.

Best scored his first goal in Southampton colours on Saturday in the 6-0 away win to Wolves.

The goal capped off an impressive season where he has scored for fun in League One with Bournemouth and Yeovil.

Saints gaffer Burley told the Echo: 'We've been talking to Leon for the last couple of months and we're not a million miles away from agreeing a deal, but that will probably wait until the end of the season.

'I've spoken to Leon, he wants to stay at Southampton. It's just a case of getting the right deal for both parties'.

Best's contract ends in the summer and has already been linked with a whole host of clubs including former sides Bournemouth and Yeovil as well as Coventry, Oldham, Swindon and Nottingham Forest.

However impressive his goals have been in league one, the fact that he has now only just got his chance with Rasiak and Jones out, proves that we have no real need to keep him, will he ever develop into a Premiership striker? Because that is how we really should be building this team. If we sign Best again, it's because Burley thinks we will be in the Championship for years to come.

I like Best, he looks strong and powerful and if you can score goals in league one, you can score them in the Championship, but I do see where you are coming from if we are supposedly building a team for the Premiership.

He's a good player with a decent future ahead of him. If you don't want him we'd have him back like a shot LOL Good Luck to the boy - he's a nice lad and determined to do his best.
