Saints release McCann

Saints release McCann

Neil McCann has been released by Saints today, as George Burley starts to trim his oversized squad.

The 31-year-old Scottish International was signed from Rangers by Gordon Strachan in 2003 for £1.5 million.

He has struggled to command a place in the Saints first team since then and has only started 21 games and scored once for the club.

Hopefully the exit of McCann will give George Burley the opportunity to sign a new midfielder. We've been heavily linked with a move for Derby County midfielder Inigo Idiakez.

Wolves are apparently also interested in Idiakez but Burley has the advantage of having previously managed the £900,000 rated Spaniard when he was Derby boss.
