'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Playoff victory worth 60 million

If Southampton make it through to the playoffs this weekend and go on to win at Wembley on 28th May, it will be worth a massive 60 million to the club.

As previously reported, with new domestic and worldwide television deals next season, the last placed team in the Premiership will gain 35million, with an additional 20million over 2 seasons from parachute payments.

Alex Byars compiles an annual review of football finance and speaking to the BBC said:

'Excluding the biggest five or six clubs, most of the other Premiership clubs will be relatively evenly-matched in financial terms in 2007/08.

'Carrying the winning mentality from the Championship, whilst raising the club's operations to a Premiership level, is likely to determine whether or not the promoted clubs stay up.'
