'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Playoff victory worth £60 million

If Southampton make it through to the playoffs this weekend and go on to win at Wembley on 28th May, it will be worth a massive £60 million to the club.

As previously reported, with new domestic and worldwide television deals next season, the last placed team in the Premiership will gain £35million, with an additional £20million over 2 seasons from parachute payments.

Alex Byars compiles an annual review of football finance and speaking to the BBC said:

'Excluding the biggest five or six clubs, most of the other Premiership clubs will be relatively evenly-matched in financial terms in 2007/08.

'Carrying the winning mentality from the Championship, whilst raising the club's operations to a Premiership level, is likely to determine whether or not the promoted clubs stay up.'
