Baird bid accepted

Baird bid accepted

Sunderland have had a £3 million bid for Saints player of the season Chris Baird, reports the BBC.

The Black Cats' interest was reported by Vital Saints yesterday, and now it seems the Northern Ireland International is heading for the Stadium of Light.

With Baird looking set to leave St. Mary's, now is surely the time for George Burley to strengthen his defence as he would be left with only 5 first team defenders. Three of which, Chris Makin, Darren Powell and Claus Lundekvam, had their fair share of injury problems last season. While Alexander Ostlund was seemingly out of favour for large parts of the campaign, and Pele not suited to the Championship in a centre half role.

Another of Saints' better players on the way out the exit door. You'd better hope Burley's useful in the transfer market.
