Saints will kick off a busy period at home against Preston on the 22nd December, Saints have won are unbeaten at St.Marys since November 3rd when Charlton got a lucky late winner.
Last season saints took just one point against Preston, Grzegorz Rasiak put the saints ahead before a Davis shocker pulled Preston level. In the away game Preston won 3-1 infront of the sky cameras, Rasiak again the saints scorer. Preston fans wont forget the 5-1 thrashing over the lackluster saints earlier in the season.
Saints take on Colchester United on boxing day away at Layer Road, The Essex side did the double over saints last season, winning both 2-0 and 2-1, the 2-1 victory at St.Mary's was also infront of the sky cameras. Saints are firm favourites for this match as Colchester are in the relegation dog fight, although going to Layer Road is never easy. Colchester got a draw at St.Mary's earlier this season.
Saints head up to Barnsley just 3 days later, saints lost to Barnsley at home this season, a 3-2 win for the Tykes, saints picked up 4 points against Barnsley last season, a double from Grzegorz Rasiak made sure saints got a 2-2 draw, at home saints won 5-2, Andrew Surman scored a hat-trick for the saints!
Watford are the next visitors on new years day, Saints have a bad record against the Hornets and have lost 4 of the last 4 against Watford, the last saints win against Watford was at Villa park when saints beat them 2-1 in the FA Cup semi final. Ensuring saints were in Europe.
Leicester then in the cup on the 5th, Burley could put out a second string side to help preserve his better players over the January period.
